31/05/2009: Change in the rating system by dmg

- Hello OGS users,

Today, we have switched the rating system. There is no more a provisional stage but all players get a rating confidence (displayed on the profile page) depending on how many games they've played and the frequency of their games.

This rating confidence impact the ELO system on K Variable. The more your rating is confident the lower your K is. The more your opponent rating is confident, the higher your K is. (K' = K * opp rating confidence / your rating confidence).

26/05/2009: Downtime for DB Crash by dmg

- Dear OGS users,

Due to a power outage, the OGS db have crashed yesterday. We made some mistakes when recovering the database and made a wrong correction on the deadline extension. Therefore several games were unduly timedout.

We have restored the database to the last coherent backup which was made 5 hours before the downtime. As a result a few moves have been lost. Sorry for the inconvenience.

All deadlines have of course been extended by 2 days.

23/05/2009: OGS Tournaments by dmg

- Hello everybody,

Today's I've uploaded quite a few change to OGS mainly regarding tournament automation.

Before an admin has to launch every step of a tournament. Since those scripts are running well now, I've made them automatically called. So now, except for drawing Kuksu rounds, no intervention is needed from the admin. Despite the long tests I've been through today, there might be still some bug left especially regarding the starts of a title match. If one occurs, please signal it at once using the ticket system.

I've also added automatic forfeiture for title match: after a player time out a title match game on his first move. All the others non-started games are setted as a loss by forfeiture if he has not showed up on OGS since the beginning of the title match. Meaning that if a player loss on time because of bad time handling, it will just be a loss on time but if he disappear, then the title match will be a loss by forfeiture.

25/04/2009: OGS Staff Situation by dmg

- Hello OGSers,

I would like to make a point on the current situation of the staff. The current staff is composed of the following players :
Admin: dmg, topazg
Senior Developer: Arathalion
Developers: maproom, MatCauthon, Benedictu5, GioVAX
Moderators: Ariadne, George-Bob, xela, illluck, shishou, Hourousha

topazg will now handle everyday admin work for the following month. He's still really busy with personal issue.

I am going on holidays for one week without Internet the next week then I'll start a new job in Dijon. This new job includes several travels to Boston. I've got to finish my PhD thesis also but this is nearly done. However, I might be really busy the next month.

Arathalion is now rarely on OGS. He has decided to step back from the dev team a long time ago.

maproom is the runner of the bots (GnuGo, AyaGo, AyaGo6).

MatCauthon just joined the team and is doing a great work on the ogs2gtp program that enable bots to run on OGS.

22/02/2009: OGS Subscription Change by dmg

- Hello all,

I've made a few changes on OGS subscription and now it should be totally automatized (no more need for manual intervention). I will look at everything for the next subscriptions.

Don't hesitate to ask if anything seems wrong.

Also, there is now possibilities to take a 3 months subscription for 5 euros instead of a yearly (which is still at 18.50 euros).

Next plan is the server switch now. And we still needs an accountant and someone quite knowledgeable on rules on international/european non-profit organization.

The title matche between KlausP (challenger) and KyuT (current holder) for the Nines OGS Kuksu has just started.

Also on the 1st of March, the 6th cycle is bound to start. Go register yourself if you wish to enter this league tournament :)

21/01/2009: Honinbo 2008 and Kuksu Winter 2008 Nines class Title Holders by dmg

- Hello OGS Players,

Just a message to say that KlausP has won by forfeit the Honinbo 2008 Nines Class title matches and that KyuT has successfully defended his Kuksu 9 title against gomoucha (who made it to the title matches !)

luke and gomad361 are still fighting over the Kuksu Main Title. All their games are now well advanced and are really interesting. I recall that there's a kibitz feature on the title matches you can use to discuss those games.

Last, but not least, Meijin 2009 Main Class is starting on the 1st of February (or maybe the day after depending on Graham's availability and mine). Don't forget to register if you wish to join.

21/11/2008: *IMPORTANT* Next months availability by dmg

- Hello everybody,

As some of you may know, my current employment ends on November, 30th. So next month I will be unemployed and moving of house. I have already canceled my personal Internet plan and won't have personal internet connection for several month (probably two). This may change my availability during some time (especially during the beginning of December).

My current interviews for my next employment includes positions at Toulouse in France, Braunschweig in Germany and Delft in the Netherlands. I've got also leads for positions at Zürich in Switzerland but this is highly improbable. I'll have some news in the beginning of December on where I will be next year.

During this time please excuse me for my unavailability. I will try to get to online-go as often as possible (more than twice a week at least). Around Christmas I will probably get internet connection more often.

I want to say that the start of Kuksu will occurs ON TIME.

For maintenance reasons (the last update was the SQL server, they are now updating the web server), OGS might be unavailable tomorrow morning starting at 5am UTC.
